It can be tough when someone close to you is struggling with a life-controlling issue. Their behaviour may range from ‘just coping’ to spiralling out of control, and it can be hard to know what to do or how to support them. It’s normal to feel confused and hurt by the situation, and many friends and family members struggle with feelings of guilt and helplessness.
There are a number of ways that we can help you help her:
Our Residential Programme
Our six-month residential Christian discipleship programme is uniquely designed to help young women aged 18 to 28 who are struggling with issues such as self harm, eating disorders, low self esteem, depression or abuse in any of its forms. From the point of application until graduation from the programme, we work in partnership with a young woman’s home church to help her make the changes she desires to be free from her life controlling issues.
Upon application, every young woman is set up with an Accountability Partner (an AP), who has been nominated by their church leader, who will walk with them, pray with them and support them throughout their time on the application process, during the residential programme and upon completion, as they transition back into their home environment. This could be someone that the applicant is already meeting up with regularly or an older woman with a strong faith and a heart for people who is able to give some of her time to invest and come alongside the resident throughout their journey. The AP is trained and supported by the team at Mercy UK.
